Quite a huge crowd in this cold but sunny Wednesday to see a
quite-unlucky-and-awkward-as-well-for-a-few-weeks Xamax. I don't remember
having seen so few people in a European cup game in La Maldiere. This is
also the first time they scored so many goals in a single European game.
Otherwise you have to go back to 87 (Lathy, 5-0) or 1991 (Celtic 5-1) to
find other high-scores.

The first few minutes of the game were quite representative of what
could've happened in the nightmare scenario : No one from tiligul was
playing any further than 30 meters away from their goal, except for 2
not-dangerous but quick counters. And with that (Tiligul's) kind of
defense, you usually have to rely on free kicks or corners to score. And if
you're not good at it, dream on. Still, after 8' Tiligul got somehow a bit
more self-confident, and many of their players went forward on a counter,
which failed against the home defence, which could organize a quick counter
as well, nice pass from far for Isabella's head, 1-0. That single goal
unmounted all crispations and fears by Xamax, and made Tiligul defensively
collapse for 7 fatal minutes.

6 minutes later Adrian Kunz tries a little solo slalom within the visitor's
defense, shot from the box' edge, 2-0. A minute later Isabella made a
wonderful volley shot from the edge of the box as well, 3-0.

The rest of the half-time was a peaceful, friendly-game like, time filling.

So was the beginning of the 2nd half, until that 70' minute where Sandjak
(strongly whistled at his entrance on the field) took advantage of a
confused scene in front of Tiraspol's frame. That confused scene confused
Tiligul's minds for seven more crual minutes as well. Then, Perret, from
the extreme left edge of the box, shot a left-foot kick straight into the
top high right corner of the frame. Perret scores seldomly enough to
highlight the fact (the crowed was totally overwhelmed after his goal :)) :
the last time he scored, if I'm not mistaking, was in a Xamax-Sion game
(4-1) at the beginning of the 94-95 season. If you count that Perret played
just about all of Xamax's games since then, well... I don't remember what
Rothenbuehler's goal was all about - or was I eating that second hamburger
then ;-? -, but the last one came for sure from a wonderful technical
slalom of Boughanem near the box frontal line who (directly?) passed to
Gigon for the score.

The whole team has been doing in overall quite good.

By Tiligul, this Popovic (nr 11) guy whom GC wanted to buy this summer but
didn't for he was too expensive (euhh ??) has not been especially
brilliant, nor brilliant at all. On the other hand, their nr 10,
Bandana-man Vladimir Cosse (kind of an oldie Rambo style) and left-winger
nr7 Andrei Stroenco seemed to have a little inspiration.

Still, Tiliguls' level _of that night_ is probably to compare to
Switzerland's 3rd division (1ère ligue/Erste Liga)

Nati-Guru Fringer attended the game as well.

Mmmh, is there any other useless information I could deliver you by the
same way ?

Euuh, yeah, hamburgers were good.

Keep enjoying football.

Laurent.
